The tempting shortcut

The shortcut is making every route permanent: it is available, familiar and requires no decision. In the moment, a one-time purchase becomes a six-month warranty conversation. Convenience wins because the future cost is invisible.

Where the cost appears

A disposable address can vanish before recovery, returns or warranties are complete. The clean-up then touches several systems instead of one. What looked like fewer addresses becomes more password resets, preference changes and uncertain records.

Fewer decisions today can create more dependencies tomorrow.

Repair the pattern

  • Estimate recovery needs
  • Allow for disputes
  • Extend before expiry
  • Make valuable routes durable

Do not rush to disable the old route. Move important relationships, confirm the replacements and allow a cooling-off period for anything forgotten.

Avoid the opposite mistake

Temporary should describe the relationship, not a guess made too early. The answer is not maximum complexity. Use the smallest boundary that contains the likely problem.

Give the next relationship its own route.
